Developing an e-Commerce website is no small task and the cost varies based on the functionality needed, the platform it is running on, and the complexity and quantity of product listings.
With an e-Commerce site there are many other complicating factors such as payment processing, security, fulfillment, inventory and email integration, which makes them typically far more expensive and complex than a regular small business website.
When working with a reputable design and development agency, be prepared to pay an additional premium for an e-Commerce site.
There are other reputable “build it yourself” e-Commerce solutions, including Shopify, Big Commerce, and Amazon Webstore, however factor in the learning curve they have with them if you are trying to do it yourself. While not actual e-Commerce sites, in the traditional sense, websites such as eBay and Etsy may also be viable options for some smaller soloprenuers on a budget.
